60. Laphroaig Càirdeas 2023 Release Laphroaig Càirdeas 2023 White Port & Madeira Casks takes flavours from much-loved releases over recent years and adds a temperate Mediterranean feel. Three quarters of the single malt has been matured in second-fill madeira casks, releasing smoky, spicy, and sweet fruit flavours, while the final quarter has been finished in first-fill port casks. Thanks to the contact in these mostly white port barrels, you get warm hints of crisp apple fruits and a deep woodiness. Each sip delivers sweet tasting smoothness with a lingering earthy peat and creosote phenolic character, finishing off with a slight sea-salt sensation.

61. Highland Park Cask Strength Release No. 4 2023
Cask Strength Release No. 4 opens with enticing aromas of toasted coconut, driven by the ex-bourbon casks, along with crushed lemons and cedarwood; there’s a delightful hint of Turkish Delight in the aromatic peat smoke too, thanks to the influence of the ex-port casks. Intriguing flavours of zesty pink grapefruit and fragrant rose water emerge on the palate, expertly balanced by earthier suggestions of toasted oak and heather-rich peat, while the long finish reveals exotic sun-baked spices and a ribbon of licorice running through the final breath of floral peat smoke.
